Chaparral Eurythmy has been an ensemble in Austin since 2007, creating solo and ensemble performances, and individual or group classes for the general public. Eurythmy is unique within the movement arts in that the gestures are the essence of the sounds of speech, a moving alphabet, a visible song, the entire piece ‘choreographed’ by the beauty of the spoken word, the voice of the instrument. Eurythmists have been teaching in school settings, seminars, trainings, lectures, festivals, and conferences in Austin, Texas. Barbara Bresette-Mills and Beth Usher, eurythmists and co-founders, have recently expanded their activities to teaching, performing, studying, in other states and abroad.
Rudolf Steiner’s art of movement, eurythmy fills the stage with a program of classical poetry and music, in a lively collaboration of eurythmists, musicians, speech artists and lighting technicians. Chaparral Eurythmy venues have included:
- Austin Waldorf School
- Austin Museum of Art at Laguna Gloria
- University of Texas at Jessen Auditorium, recital with distinguished voice professor Nikita Storojev
- a benefit concert for the 2011 Bastrop, TX fire victims with Classical Music for the World (CMFW) at the All Faiths Chapel
- Thursday Noon Concerts at Central Presbyterian Church
- Austin’s Orphanage – Helping Hand Home
- Annual General Meeting, Anthroposophical Society in America
- Webster University, St. Louis – faculty recital with Anna Lackschewitz, viola
- Eurythmy with poetry of University of Texas professor Frederick Turner. Performance featured in an Austin Peace Day event at the Texas State Capitol Rotunda (with CMFW.)
